SIRE has an open membership policy consistent with its aim to enhance the quality of Economics research throughout Scotland. Established leading researchers within each of SIRE’s three research programmes are identified in the summaries of research themes found in the “Research Programmes” section. The membership of key committees in the SIRE governance structure (the Governing Board, The Executive, and the International Advisory Board) is listed below.
A major part of the SIRE investment is the appointment of new high quality Economics researchers, to strengthen and deepen the research base within Scotland. This is an ongoing process. The new appointments made to date are listed and profiled below. |

The Governing Board |
The formal Governing Board of SIRE comprises the Principals (or their authorised delegates, normally Vice-Principals) of the participating Universities. |

The Executive Committee |
The Executive Committee, which reports to the Governing Board, takes more direct responsibility for articulating and driving the research strategy of SIRE and oversees the management of SIRE activities and programmes. The membership of the Executive Committee comprises: |

Professor John Moore FBA was unitl 2009 the Director of SIRE and Programme Director of BIC. He has recently been elected to the Presidency of The Econometric Society and will give the keynote address to the World Congress of the Society in Shanghai in August 2010. The Congress, which is held only every five years, represents one of the world’s largest international gatherings of economists. The Econometric Society is the most prestigious learned society in the field of economics, with a world-wide membership. Its remit is to recognise and encourage path-breaking research in economic theory and econometrics. Past presidents of the Society include John Maynard Keynes, Irving Fisher and many Nobel prize winners in economics, such as Amartya Sen and James Mirrlees.
