Alex Trew obtained his PhD from the University of St Andrews, his MSc from the University of Warwick and his BA(Hons) from the University of Durham. He has previously worked at the Bank of England and EKOS Consulting as a summer intern.
His research interests lie in growth theory, with particular emphasis on establishing the microfoundations of 'finance and growth'. His work is, in large part, motivated by an analysis of finance through the industrial revolution. The stylised phenomena identified in this historical research feeds into the development of more useful, numerically-testable, models. This necessitates an understanding of financial contracts, and the environments in which they are formed optimally. His research thus also extend to general equilibrium and contract theory.
Personal Interests
